I offer free business coaching for freelance writers.

I’ve been a freelance writer since 2007 and a full-time freelancer since 2009.

I quit my “normal” job during a recession and decided to never go back to traditional work again. ⛔

Back then, freelancing wasn’t the major working style it is today. There was very little help for people like me. It was so uncommon that one of my first thoughts was, “Do people even do this?”

I didn’t know the answer, but I pushed forward anyway.

Why? There are a few reasons:

  • I want to provide the guidance I needed and couldn’t find when I started.
  • I want that help to be as accessible as possible to those who need it, especially new freelancers who can’t afford to pay for a coach (or even a book).
  • I tried to monetize this and immediately felt my energy drop. My heart’s not in monetization when it comes to business coaching. And my heart’s not in business coaching if I’m trying to monetize it. 💔
  • There’s so much generic advice out there for freelancers, and I want to fill in the gap with comprehensive answers that you can learn from and act on.

Plus, I live with my boyfriend, who’s also a freelance writer, and I get to routinely answer questions during the beginning stages of his career, which keeps me fresh.

I’m also totally and completely sick of “six-figure writers” who have loooooong pitches (often full of errors) that say a lot without saying anything of value, require your email address so they can bombard you with newsletters, and then take your money to rope you into a program that provides semi-helpful but often vague, cookie-cutter advice that doesn’t move you forward. 🤬

Personalized Business Coaching

Depending on my availability, I offer a combination of group and 1:1 coaching. If we’re going to connect one-on-one, we can use a chat service or email. I’m also open to phone calls.

Freelance Writing Business Advice

We can go over things like the following (plus so much more):

  • Should I do a project for free?
  • I don’t have a portfolio or website yet, but a potential client asked to see them.
  • How much should I charge? 💰
  • I have no idea how to start cold outreach!
  • Which jobs boards are the best?
  • My client keeps asking for revisions. What do I do?

I don’t offer coaching to improve copywriting skills, but I will provide feedback if you’re looking for a critique.

Also, if there’s a situation I don’t have experience with, I’ll be upfront about that and help you find resources for reliable information.

Detailed Guidance

Instead of giving you a broad answer, I’ll go into as much detail as possible so you get the insight you need.

For example:

If you’re not sure how to respond to an email a client sent you, we’ll workshop an answer and create a fill-in-the-blank template you can use moving forward.

If you’re not sure how much to charge for a project, we’ll do the math and come up with a number.

My business coaching for freelance writers will always be free.

(I don’t even put my Medium articles behind a paywall, ever.)

You don’t have to subscribe to anything.

If you’d like, you can sign up for my newsletter (coming soon) that will include more help for freelancers, but it’s not required.

I won’t hold information hostage so it’s only accessible if you pay.

In other words, I won’t push you to buy a coaching program or online course that includes paywalled information and make that the only way you can get the help you need.

At some point in the future, I may offer paid personal coaching, online courses, an e-book or other type of content for those who prefer to digest information in a specific way and are happy to pay to do it. But that won’t be your only option for getting support.

For example, I might provide ongoing personal business coaching to someone who wants to meet on a recurring schedule to continuously improve their career. They may pay to secure the coaching sessions, but the information they receive won’t be “better” than what you’ll get for free.

Or, I may take all of the advice I’ve offered on a specific topic and package it into an affordable e-book or course. If you’d like to get everything at once, that would be the best and quickest way to do that — but the same type of information will be available elsewhere, if you’re up to finding it.

If you’d like to connect, email me at lindsaypietro@gmail.com. Let me know what career stage you’re in and what you need help with. I can’t wait to talk to you 😊
